Artistic Photography

I have written about Katarzyna Widmanska’s photography before but her work is so outstanding that I think I will just continue showing it over and over again. She is a true artist and huge inspiration. In this Melancholic Session I see a multifaceted woman, torn and abandoned but still standing strong. Aren’t we all like that?

Over the knee socks

Over the knee socks are probably one of the hottest fashion trends for this fall. I see so many bloggers rocking them in their outfit posts. I love the look especially with massive platform boots or clogs. They look sexy but not too outrageous. What do you think, would you wear those?

Fashion Blogger Spotlight – Style Bust

Nicole, the founder of Style Bust, is probably one of the most hardworking girls I know. Besides working full time at her day job she also works on Style Bust, an online editorial on latest trends in fashion, style, jewelry and more. Style Bust is one of my favorite fashion blogs because of its variety and easy to read format. One of the power Style Bust contributors is Nicole’s sister Jessi who shares Nicole’s passion for fashion. In this interview, both sisters take us from videotaping themselves palying dress-up in the 80′s to the birth of Style Bust.

Nicole-Lindgren-and-Jessi-Lindgren-of-Style-Bust

1. How was Style Bust born?
Nicole: Last summer my boyfriend was building all of these websites for small businesses. And I was like, if it’s that easy to put a website together, I want one too. Now I had all these crazy ideas on how the site would look and feel, and he said, “until you can prove yourself online, and get a following, this site will be very basic.” Since launch, we’ve redesigned the website twice, though it’s still a rather basic, blog format site.

2. What information can readers find on Style Bust?
Nicole: The site has expanded to cover many different style related topics. The site has 14 guest bloggers who help diversify the content significantly.
Jessi: Exactly, readers can learn about beauty products, music, runway fashions, how to get runway looks for less, style tips and even answers to style questions!

3. It’s great to see that sisters have so much in common. Have you always shared passion for fashion and style?
Nicole: We have shared this passion for years. We attended FIDM together, studying Fashion Merchandise Marketing in Southern California in the early 2000’s. In recent years, Jessi has really played the part of stylist, I look to her for any wardrobe needs, and now that she sews, she’s making me all these great one of a kind pieces for different events.
Jessi: I think we’ve always had a passion for fashion and style…like most young girls we played dress-up…but we took it to the next level! We set up runways all over our house and 9 acre yard, we had some great 80′s tune playing and we had ourselves a good old fashion runway show (and yes, they were video taped)! But as we got older (junior high and high school), I don’t remember being very “fashionable,” but after moving out of rural MN, we both found our love for fashion again!

Moda Epidemic: I’d love to get my hands of those tapes :)

4. You both systematically post on the blog. What do you like to write about most?
Nicole: I mostly post about the stories we receive from outside parties. I don’t post as much as I used to because I’m working behind the scenes with the guest bloggers to ensure their stories get populated correctly. There really isn’t a story on the site I don’t touch.
Jessi: I mainly write about style and trends that I really like. I also LOVE creating outfits using Polyvore and incorporating that into my post on Style Bust, so my posts are usually about how to wear certain trends.

5. Tell me about your “Join the closet Swap“?
Jesse: My girlfriends and I had talked about doing a closet swap in the past, but we all had different schedules, so it made it hard for us to meet up and actually “swap” clothes. So, Nicole and I decided that an online closet swap would be fun and a good way for us to finally exchange clothes! Basically, you photograph pieces that you don’t wear (clothes and accessories that you know others would want), email them to Style Bust, then on a certain day…the swapping begins! You check out Style Bust and send an email listing the items you’re interested in (this is a first come, first serve basis). In the end, hopefully you’ll get rid of what you don’t want and get new items from a fellow Style Bust reader (kinda like Christmas)!!

Moda Epidemic: I love this idea and I’ve meant to participate.

6. What other blogs do you read on regular basis? What do you like about them?
Nicole: I’m reading a lot of local blogs, like Moda Epidemic, SF Indie Fashion, Nickie Noel. And also a lot of national blogs like Another Magazine, The Cut, Dazed Digital and Daily Candy.
Jesse: I have quite a few blogs bookmarked, but the ones I check out most often are: Fashion Toast, Psimadethis (great DIY blog), Carolines Mode, and FrouFrouu. For me, personal style blogs are very inspirational (and the photographs always look so perfect – almost like a fashion editorial)! I find it interesting to see what people from around the world are wearing!

7. What is your favorite fashion designer and why?
Nicole: I like the lesser known designers, local designers and thrift/vintage more than anything. That said, I’m having a blast with my sisters designs because they are custom made for me. Charlotte Ronson and Derek Lam are two of the bigger name designers I dig, but don’t own.
Jessi: My favorite fashion designer right now is Kimberly Ovitz. Her clothes are not complicated, a little edgy, and always comfortable! Exactly what I want to be wearing!

8. If you had to wear one piece of clothing every day for the next 30 days what would that be and why?
Nicole: a pair of black combat boots because their comfortable.
Jessi: I’d probably wear my Dries van Noten v-neck sweater (and amazing thrift store find). I think I’ve pretty much been wearing it every day since I bought it! It’s beige, super comfortable, classic v-neck sweater and it goes with everything!

9. Fashion tip for Fall 2010?
Nicole: This is my all-year-round tip, wear items that work with your body type.
Jessi: If I could give a woman one Fall fashion tip, it would be to buy something camel-colored (jackets, pants, or a sweater). Camel colors were seen all over the Fall runways and the overall looks were chic, minimal and effortless…perfect for a chilly autumn night! My dream outfit for Fall: a chunky camel-colored sweater with black cigarette jeans and a wedge heel.

Moda Epidemic
: Jessi, your camel inspired outfit sounds amazing. That color just goes with everything and it’s really flattering.

10. Do you share the same taste for clothes?
Nicole: Yes, though we put our looks together a little differently, with accessories and all.
Jessi: I think we share the same taste in clothing. But we do have different tastes when it comes to shoes. Nicole likes practical shoes, shoes with color, and flats (and she has a ton of shoes)! Me on the other hand…I wear mostly all black, wedge boots and I’ll wear the same shoe until they fall apart!

Levi’s denim – All Asses were not Created Equal

I haven’t been to Levi’s store for ages. I don’t wear jeans too much but It must be over a decade since I bought a pair of Levi’s jeans. With a lot of popular denim brands like True Religion jeans, Joe’s jeans or Diesel available on the market these days it is hard to remember about the American classic. Levi Strauss was a young German immigrant who left New York for San Francisco during Gold Rush and dressed miners in overalls made from canvas and later on created legendary Levi’s 501 jeans. The rest is history…

I wanted to write about Levi’s because I feel that their brand has gone through an amazing transformation and is gaining market share all over again with their eye-catching “All Asses were not Created Equal” ad and new fit suitable for every body type. God knows I have the hardest time ever to find a pair of jeans that would actually fit me properly and Levi’s study shows that women try on at least 10 different types of jeans before they find a pair that’s most suitable for their body type. Isn’t that crazy? This study only proves why I rarely wear jeans. I get frustrated with fittings. I loved their new ad so much that I even went to Levi’s store for the first time in over a decade to see what the hell is all this Ass talking about. I got measured and I found out that out of three new custom fits: Slight Curve, Demi Curve, Bold Curve I am a Demi Curve. If you don’t have time to get measured at the store and you are curious what custom fit you are you can do it yourself at the comfort of your own home. Just watch Levi’s instructional video on their website. You can actually learn something about your hips, waist and butt that you were not aware off.

So what custom curve fit are you? Slight, Demi or Bold? Let me know!

Levi's Jeans

My favorite pair in Slight Curve
“The perfect jean for women with straight hips, narrow thighs and a flatter butt. The fit stays slim through the hip and thigh, then defines its curves (and enhances yours) through the butt. Comfortable and not too tight at the waist, skinny on down to the ankle.”

Levi's Jeans - Slight Curve Skinny Jean - Glazed

My favorite pair in Demi Curve – Skinny
“Made to fit women who have balanced proportions between waist, hips and butt. The fit accentuates your waist, flatters your curves and lengthens your silhouette – all without gapping, pinching or revealing. Comfortable and not too tight at the waist, skinny on down to the ankle.”

Levi's Jeans - Geo Stitch Demi Curve Skinny

My favorite pair in Bold Curve
“Our jean for curvy women with a very defined waist, hip and butt – streamlined with on-yoke pockets and metal zippers. This is the fit that hugs your waist without gapping, fits at the butt without pulling, and celebrates your curves. Cut high enough in back (and low enough in front). Comfortable and not too tight at the waist, skinny on down to the ankle.”

Levi's Jeans - Baretta Bold Curve Skinny - Nickel Grey

My favorite pair in Boyfriend Jeans
